Catholic Foundation Art Auction Raises Over $65,000 for the Founders Fund
The Catholic Foundation for the Diocese of Scranton recently celebrated the tremendous success of its inaugural art auction, raising more than $65,000 in support of the Founders Fund for the Catholic Foundation for the Diocese of Scranton. Bids came in from as far away as California! Beyond the financial impact, the event revealed something even more powerful—the deep spiritual and personal connections that sacred art continues to inspire within our Catholic community.
A Lasting Impact Through Sacred Art
The featured works, created by artist Austin Burke, beautifully captured beloved churches and sacred traditions throughout the Diocese. Many of the winning bidders shared moving reflections, demonstrating how these pieces became far more than artwork—they became cherished expressions of faith, family, and legacy. Foundation Board Chair Chris DiMattio expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support, emphasizing that the success of the auction demonstrates the strength of the Catholic community when united in purpose.
One donor reflected on receiving a painting of the Sacred Heart of Jesus connected to his family’s parish:
“I cannot tell you how exciting this is… My parents as well as numerous relatives were married at the Mayfield church. My grandparents and great-grandparents had their funeral Masses there. My great grandparents were founding members of the parish… The painting will hang in a place of honor in my home.”
Executive Director Mark DiPippa praised both the artist and the donors for their generosity and commitment to the Church’s mission, noting that the event exemplified how faith and philanthropy come together to build a lasting legacy.
Another donor, who acquired a painting of the Sacred Heart of Mary in Jermyn, shared a desire to give the piece back to the community:
“I’d like to donate it to the Jermyn Historical Society… I grew up next door to the church and was an altar server there… It brought back good memories.”
In several instances, donors chose to return their paintings to the churches themselves—transforming the auction into an act of generosity that directly strengthens parish life.
Faith, Generosity, and Legacy
The success of the auction reflects the mission of the Catholic Foundation: to inspire faithful stewardship and create lasting support for the Church. Proceeds from the event will directly benefit the Founders Fund, helping to sustain ministries, parishes, and outreach efforts across the Diocese of Scranton. Artist Austin Burke shared his appreciation for the opportunity to contribute, highlighting the meaningful role of sacred art in connecting individuals to their faith, their history, and their parishes.
Building the Future Together
The Catholic Foundation is deeply grateful to all who participated—our generous bidders, donors, and supporters—whose contributions made this fundraiser possible.
This art auction is a testament to the enduring power of faith, memory, and generosity. Together, we are preserving our past, strengthening our present, and building a vibrant future for the Church in Northeastern Pennsylvania.
