Ways To Give

Cash Gift

A cash gift may be the simplest way to make a contribution to the Catholic Foundation. Cash gifts have an immediate impact on our Diocesan ministries. Checks can be made out and sent to The Catholic Foundation for the Diocese of Scranton, 300 Wyoming Ave, Scranton, PA 18503

Stock Donations

Donating stock is a great way to support the work of the Catholic Foundation to serve our Diocesan ministries, parishes and Catholic schools. Gifting appreciated securities is an easy and tax-advantaged way to give to the Catholic Foundation and avoid capital gains tax. If you are considering a gift from your estate, remember that stocks, bonds and other marketable securities can also be gifted through your will.

IRA Qualified Charitable Contribution

An IRA qualified charitable distribution (QCD) allows you to direct up to $100,000 from your traditional IRA to charity tax-free. This option is open to donors age 70 ½ and older who have a traditional IRA, and it counts toward your required minimum distribution (RMD). When given directly to charity, traditional IRA funds do not count in your adjusted gross income and are not subject to income tax.

Real Estate

A gift of your appreciated real property such as your home, vacation property, vacant land or commercial property can make a great gift to The Catholic Foundation. Here are some of the benefits you may enjoy: avoid paying capital gains tax; receive a charitable income tax deduction and leave a lasting legacy.

Life Insurance

You may have a life insurance policy that you no longer need. Did you know that you can list the Catholic Foundation as the beneficiary and establish a fund to support your parish, a Catholic School, Catholic Social Services or another ministry?

Other Beneficiary Designations

In addition to a life insurance policy, you can designate the Catholic Foundation as the beneficiary of a brokerage account, a retirement fund or a savings account. This can be done in a few minutes and helps to avoid estate taxes and lessen inheritance taxes for heirs. More importantly this option is a great way to leave a forever gift to an endowment fund in the Catholic Foundation for a ministry that is special to you.

Will

A bequest in your will is also a meaningful way to make a charitable gift to a cherished Diocesan ministry endowment fund in the Catholic Foundation for the Diocese of Scranton. You can specify an amount or percentage from your estate to permanently benefit your designated parish, school, or other Diocesan entity or ministry forever.
