Catholic Foundation Art Auction Preview at the Bishop’s Reception for Appeal Donors

On Sunday, January 4, 2026, the Most Reverend Joseph C. Bambera, Bishop of Scranton, offered prayers of thanksgiving for donors to the 2025 Catholic Ministries Appeal during Mass at the Cathedral of Saint Peter in Scranton on the Solemnity of the Epiphany.

During the liturgy, Bishop Bambera reflected on the generosity and faith of those whose support strengthens ministries serving parishes, families, and individuals throughout the Diocese of Scranton. Their contributions continue to advance Catholic education, charitable outreach, clergy and seminarian support, and pastoral care across the local Church.

Following Mass, leadership donors were invited to a reception at the Diocesan Pastoral Center, where diocesan leaders expressed gratitude for their ongoing commitment to the mission of the Church.

As of early January, the 2025 Catholic Ministries Appeal has reached 84 percent of its $4.5 million goal. Gifts of all sizes remain vital and are still being accepted at https://annualappeal.org/

In addition to supporting the annual Appeal, donors were invited to participate in initiatives of the Catholic Foundation for the Diocese of Scranton, which works to strengthen the long-term financial health of diocesan ministries. Among these efforts is the Founders Campaign: A Legacy of Faith, a $3 million initiative dedicated to sustaining the Foundation’s mission for future generations.

In support of the Founders Campaign, the Catholic Foundation will host an online art auction in early May of 2026 featuring paintings of local churches by artist Austin Burke. A preview of some of Burke’s art was displayed at the Bishop’s reception. Proceeds from the auction will help ensure the Diocese of Scranton continues to thrive and faithfully serve the needs of the Church for years to come.
